Surgical Services

At Dunn Avenue Animal Hospital we are pleased to be able to offer surgery performed with the Luxar Accuvet 20 watt CO2 Surgical Laser. We have been performing laser surgery since 1998, and we were one of the first Veterinary Hospitals in the southeast to offer this state-of-the-art technology.

Laser surgery allows more accurate surgical incicions. Tumors can be more accurately and completely excised. Routine surgical incisions made with the Luxar CO2 Laser heal more quickly with less inflammation, less swelling, and less post surgical discomfort when compared to an incision made with a surgical blade.

A patient has been prepared and is monitored prior to surgery.
All patients are placed on a heart/oxygen monitor and warming
blanket during major surgical procedures.

We also encourage that all surgical patients be evaluated through preanesthetic lab testing, and be supported with intravenous fluid therapy during surgical procedures. This helps us assure a safe procedure with a rapid, uneventful recovery period.

The Luxar CO2 Surgical Laser can be used for procedures ranging
from full thickness excisons, as required in exploratory laparotomy,
cystotomy, or tumor excisions, or can be finely adjusted to allow
near single cell thickness cauterization of corneal ulcers or superficial
skin lesions.

Our surgical patient monitoring during anesthesia includes the capability of quantifying the patient's heart rate, percent of oxygen saturation, and systolic and diastolic blood pressures. Our goal is to make every anesthetic and surgical procedure as safe as possible for your pet.
