Meet Our Veterinary Assistants

The Veterinary Assistant position is one of the most physically demanding jobs in our hospital. Assistants are responsible for the day to day care and comfort of our boarding pets.

Assistants are also responsible for bathing pets while they are at Dunn Avenue Animal Hospital, whether it be prior to surgery, or after a boarding or hospitalization visit. Any pet staying overnight in the hospital for any reason, will receive a therapeutic bath before returning home. If your pet is being treated for a skin allergy, if we are trying to help you eliminate a problem flea infestation, or just relieve the discomfort of a "hot spot" flare up, our Assistants strive to take special care of your pet.

They must remain very conscientious, and keep the ward and grooming area clean and organized. We all strive to care for your pets as if they were our own!.

Veterinary Assistants are responsible for most of the one-on-one contact with the pets staying in the hospital. Assistants attend to the daily feeding, exercise, and cleaning needs of both our hospitalized patients and boarding pets. Veterinary Assistants are also responsible for the grooming and bathing services we offer. They help the Technicians and the Doctor during patient examinations and treatments as needed, and are responsible for performing the majority of the daily cleaning and maintenance duties in the hospital.

Veterinary Assistants are often hired for this "entery level" position because they are interested in being trained and eventually advancing to the position of Veterinary Technician. The position of Veterinary Assistant is demanding enough that anyone who is not mature enough, or serious enough, about really wanting to work in a veterinary hospital, soon decides that they may be better off in another field of work.
